Cinnamon Peach Kuchen

There are so many textures and flavors together in this recipe that all you can do when you taste it is say....HMMMMMMM!!
Kuchen is the German name for "cake".  "Kuchen has a thick crust and a sweet custard base " according to Wikipedia.  But evidently that's just one form of Kuchen.  I'm sooooooo very happy I found this recipe on Taste Of Home!  The crust taste like crunchy shortbread cookies, the custard is so very smooth and light!  There's also a gooey brown sugar and cinnamon layer along with the peaches.  This is one fantastic recipe, and we're going to make it.



We start the recipe by greasing a 9 inch springform pan.  Don't try to make this in any other pan, it needs the springform pan.  Next, we are mixing up the crust. 



I put my butter in the freezer to get very cold then ,I grated it and added it to the flour, sugar , salt and baking powder in a large mixing bowl.  Grating the butter just makes it so much easier to blend it into the flour. 


After you have worked the butter into the flour mixture, put it into the springform pan and pat it  into the  bottom of the pan and go up the sides of the pan 1 1/2 inches.


The recipe called for canned peaches, but I had fresh so I used them. I used about 4 fresh peaches for the recipe. Peel and slice your peaches and place them in a spiral fashion on the crust.


Combine the brown sugar and cinnamon and spread it over the peaches.  I know it looks like a lot of sugar, I thought that as I was spreading it .  But trust me it works!  Place the springform pan on a baking sheet and place in the oven at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.


After 20 minutes take the pan out of the oven.


Combine the beaten egg yolks ( I used 3 yolks) and cream together and pour over the peaches and melting brown sugar.  Put the pan with the baking sheet in the oven for another 25 to 30 minutes until the custard has set in the middle of the Kuchen.  


This Cinnamon Peach Kuchen is an amazing combination of texture and flavors.  We LOVED it!  This was so EASY to make, seriously it took no time at all to make this and then to devour it!  I hope you love it as much as we did!  Enjoy!

Cinnamon Peach Kuchen

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour 
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt 
1/4 teaspoon baking powder 
1/2 cup cold butter, cubed 
2 cans (15-1/4 ounces each) peach halves, drained and patted dry ( I used about 4 fresh peaches)
1 cup packed brown sugar 
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 
2 egg yolks, lightly beaten  ( I used 3 egg yolks)
1 cup heavy whipping cream

Directions
  
In a small bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder; cut in butter until crumbly. Press onto the bottom and 1-1/2 in. up the sides of a greased 9-in. springform pan. 

Place pan on a baking sheet. Arrange peach halves, cut side up, in the crust. Combine brown sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over peaches. 

Bake at 350° for 20 minutes. Combine egg yolks and cream; pour over peaches. Bake 25-30 minutes longer or until top is set. Cool on a wire rack. Refrigerate leftovers. Yield: 10 servings.
